To go beyond just a course progress measurement of complete/incomplete, we implemented a learning points system for i GET IT. i GET IT Learning Points allows us to assign a greater value on certain types, levels or topics of courses. We created a system that weighs the different document types along with the overall level of the course.
Here is how it works...
- An i GET IT course is made of many documents (pages) that are created from certain templates, which provides a consistent, easy to follow deliverable. There are templates for Introductions, Lessons, Process/Procedures, Projects (Try Its) and a In-Course Quiz.
- Each course document is given a certain amount of points based on the complexity of the page type. For example, a lesson would be 5 points where as a Project is 15 points. Below are the points assigned to document type.
Document Type | Learning Points Assigned |
---|---|
Introduction | 1 |
Lessons | 5 |
Process (Try It) | 10 |
Project | 15 |
In-course Quiz | 10 |
- The base learning points is calculated by taking the total points of all the documents in the course outline.
- After getting the base learning points, we multiple by a difficulty factor assigned to a course. For Basic you would earn a factor of 1, for Intermediate a factor of 2, Advanced a factor of 3 and Certificate Type is a factor of 5. This is controlled during the i GET IT Course Builder in Step 2:Properties.
And there you have our "magic" learning points formula to allow more detailed tracking of a learners history. After an accumulation of course events has been recorded, we will show the breakdown of the course learning points earned for each course as well as the categories as a whole. i GET IT Learning Points, along with course progress tracking of complete/incomplete, provides you and your learning administrators that ability to assess your training progress.
